Preparing for Your Surgery

You may receive three phone calls from Advanced Surgery Center of Central Iowa.

  • Insurance Verification: Our insurance team will call to confirm your insurance and discuss any payments that may be due on the day of surgery.
  • A nurse will call you 3-7 days prior to your procedure to review your health history and give you specific instructions for your procedure.
  • You will receive a call the business day before your procedure to remind you of your procedure and provide you with your arrival time.

Please make note of the following recommendations as well:

  • Follow the nurse's instructions for eating and drinking.
  • Follow the nurse's instructions on which medications should be taken the morning of surgery with a small sip of water.
  • Please consult with your surgeon and physician regarding stopping any blood thinners (Coumadin, Plavix, Aspirin, etc) as these products may need to be stopped 5-7 days prior to surgery.
  • Patients should wear loose and comfortable clothing that is easy to take off and put on. You will be changing into a hospital gown while you are at the center.
  • Please make sure you have your driver's license or other form of photo identification, insurance card(s) and list of current medications and dosages.
  • Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
  • You must have a support (adult) person with you who can drive you home after your procedure.

Surgery may need to be canceled if:

  • A responsible adult does not accompany you on the day of surgery.
  • Testing was not completed or needs further investigation.
  • If you had anything to eat or drink outside of the guidelines discussed.
  • If you have a fever over 100, or any signs of an active wound or infection.
